Our Mission & Vision

Dr. Barbara Sharief knows firsthand the challenges families face, having experienced them herself after her father’s death to gun violence. Despite financial struggles, she persevered, relying on food banks and working as a store clerk and waitress to put herself through nursing school. She later founded a business focused on caring for employees, providing free healthcare and savings programs.

In Tallahassee, Dr. Sharief promises to advocate fiercely for families and workers, prioritizing affordable housing, reduced home insurance costs, lower property taxes, increased education funding, protection for unionized labor, and pay equity. She champions Medicaid expansion, reproductive rights, and affordable healthcare, dedicated to never ceasing her efforts on behalf of the community.

Dr. Barbara Sharief, an experienced public servant and business owner, intimately understands the challenges facing many families. Following her father’s tragic death to gun violence, she overcame financial hardship with support from food banks and work as a store clerk and waitress to put herself through nursing school. She’s committed to fighting the NRA and advocating for sensible gun reforms to prevent others from experiencing similar loss.

In Tallahassee, Dr. Sharief pledges to care for families and workers as she does her own. She champions fair elections, protecting voters’ rights, and opposes Republican efforts that hinder people of color from voting. As a business owner, she prioritizes middle-class and minimum-wage workers with robust health benefits, family leave, and “rainy day” savings funds.

Dr. Sharief is dedicated to affordable housing, reduced homeowners insurance, lower property taxes, increased education funding, union protection, and pay equity. She supports Medicaid expansion, reproductive rights, and affordable healthcare, drawing on her 14-year tenure as Commissioner and leadership through crises like hurricanes and mass shootings as Broward County’s first Black female Mayor.
